The History Of Slurry

SLURRY (According To "The American Heritage Dictionary Of The English Language"): "A thin mixture of a liquid, especially water, and any of several finely divided substances, such as cement, plaster of Paris, or clay particles."

SLURRY (According To Me): "A usually thick and runny mixture of a liquid, milk, and two other finely divided substances, graham crackers and peanut butter, concocted by the ingenious Mr. Scott Kiehn."

HISTORY: Though my father is not a scientist, he has made at least one achieving experiment: Slurry. In the mid 1990's, he had a little boy, me, who couldn't eat a lot and needed fattening. So, he got some peanut butter (since it's high calories, protein, and fat), slapped in on a graham cracker, put into a bowl with other crackers, poured milk (being healthy for bones)over the grahams, and stirred it all together. The result was a delicious breakfast food that my sisters and I have enjoyed for years and hand-made every time by my parents.

LEGACY: For 11 years, I have enjoyed slurry on every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. We have told others about it and how to make it, but I'm not sure if they've tried it or not. Sometimes, we offer it to sleep-over guests, and I once made it for a Greenleaf project. Also, it's become a tradition to eat it on my, Anna's , and Abby's birthdays, whether they fall on Wednesdays or weekends or not. Since Anna and I are getting older, our father has forced us to make it for ourselves. We have done so. Though our slurry is good, it's original maker's will ALWAYS be the best... because he's the best.

  • A very belated comment to this blog, but I think it is an important to note that slurry has now been enjoyed by Nathan for 14 years. Also, he has made a variation on the mixture which we refer to as chunky slurry. Chunky is not the addition of chunky peanut butter, but less soggy graham crackers by using less milk. It is quite possible that Nathan now believes that his slurry is best.
